The truss-type longitudinal girder support (longitudinal-girder truss) is a pipeline support structure in which individual pipe racks are connected by longitudinal girders to form an integrated support system, and it is widely used in piping projects across industries such as petrochemicals, power generation, and metallurgy.
Structural Features
Component parts
Longitudinal girders: Arranged along the pipeline axis to connect adjacent independent pipe racks, typically constructed from structural steel (such as H-beams or I-beams) or reinforced concrete beams.
Cross beams: Arranged perpendicular to the longitudinal beams, they are used to support the pipelines, with spacing determined based on the allowable span of the pipelines.
Independent pipe rack: composed of columns, foundations, and other components, providing vertical support.
Column bracing: Diagonal or horizontal braces are installed between the pipe rack columns to enhance longitudinal stiffness and resist unbalanced horizontal thrust from the piping.
Structural form
Single-layer and double-layer configurations: Depending on the number of pipelines and elevation requirements, the system can be designed as either a single-layer or a double-layer structure.
Span and Floor-to-Ceiling Height: The typical span is 8–12 meters, while the floor-to-ceiling height is determined based on the pipeline diameter and maintenance requirements.
Spatial System: Longitudinal girders and independent pipe racks form a spatial frame that jointly resists pipeline loads and horizontal thrust.
