Operating principle of conveying

Mar 20,2026

The conveyor belt operates continuously and smoothly based on the principle of friction drive. The electric motor delivers torque to drive the drive drum, which in turn uses friction with the conveyor belt to propel both the belt and the material carried on it.
Operating principle of conveying

The conveyor belt operates continuously and smoothly by means of frictional drive. The electric motor delivers torque to drive the drive drum, which in turn transmits motion to the belt via friction between the drum and the belt, thereby conveying both the belt and the material carried on it. The belt is arranged around the drive drum and the return idler at the tail end, forming an endless loop. Both the upper and lower belts are supported by idlers: the upper belt (the heavy section) is supported by grooved idlers to increase the contact area under the material load, while the lower belt (the return section) is supported by flat idlers. The tensioning device provides the necessary tension to ensure normal operation of the belt, prevents slippage between the belt and the drive drum, and keeps the belt sag within the specified limits.
